Peaches And Green Ceramic
Painting - Oil On Canvas
My students requested a demo with variety of textures and direct painting method. Their choice of peaches was made in order to make my demo difficult with that intricate fuzzy textures that hides pure chromatic notes. Ceramic objects have been chosen due to complementary green glazes and some repetition of the reds and orange that supported over all color unity.
Composition is linear with irregular rhythm. Ceramic bottle brakes that linear development with strong vertical and ceramic dish is underlying the whole setup with different and warmer greens.
The light is coming from the upper left and it is neutral North light from the window.
Wood absorbs the most of the light as the largest horizontal surface. It also brings some green notes of the same complementary palette.
The focal point is at the overlapping form of the third peach with the dark side of the ceramic bottle. all other peaches have been treated with less detail and with the close range of values compared with the background.
Background is lighter and muted color of the main subject. It is grayed down between some reds and greens and cooled with the ivory black.
The process of painting included two sittings. Very limited drawing determined the locations of the main objects and some indications of the future values. The second sitting was focused on more precise modeling and intensity of the color notes.
