Description
Peaches and is one of a series of photographs of the luscious local fruits and vegetables tempting the farmer’s market shopper. Peaches and features a row of boxes of luscious, rosy peaches with cherries and apricots and plums in the distance. Summer sunshine and mouth-watering goodness is just asking to go home with you. The warm, juicy color palette of this fruit presentation called forth my camera. Hand lettered paper signs, paper sack invite you to help yourself.
A farmer’s market can be anything from the back of a pickup, a farm stand, a collection of tables or booths to a more permanent structure that may be open year around. In any of these settings, the consumer can buy directly from the farmer. Foods available include local fruits and vegetables in season, meats, baked goods, honey, jams and jellies and other prepared foods and beverages. The appeal to the customer is a larger variety of local, fresher and often organic products at a reduced cost. Often craft vendors are included in the bigger farmer’s markets, which provide even more variety of products to choose from. For the farmer, the elimination of the middleman, shorter distance to transport, less handling and storage are big benefits. The big three draws to a farmer’s market are food quality, better prices and a great social atmosphere.

Creating portals of light, love, joy, beauty, compassion, hope and gratitude is my lifelong passion and gift for the earth, hence the name of my art business, For the Earth. My mother painted in oils when I was young and encouraged my own drawing, painting and handcrafting in all forms. My father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result of these loving influences, I am a lifelong student of both mediums. I am grateful to my wonderful Pacific NW painter teachers, Stan Capon and Edi Olson, for training my eye and technique. I hope you will enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed its creation.
