Description
Pellistor gas monitor detector. The pellistor was developed in the early 1960s, and was a major breakthrough in determining firedamp (flammable gas) concentrations in mines. The device detects gases which are either combustible or which have a significant difference in thermal conductivity to that of air. The pellistor improved on earlier mining safety devices, such as safety lamps. This was part of research carried out by what is today the UK's Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL).
