Description
Per capita share of atmosphere and carbon dioxide (CO2). Illustration showing the volume of air for each person on Earth (population assumed to be 7 billion), and each person's share of the CO2 (smaller column, lower centre). The Statue of Liberty (lower left) provides a scale. This volume, representing 735,000 tonnes, is shown as a cube 840 metres high. The smaller column of CO2 is 79 metres high and represents 446 tonnes for each individual. This volume of CO2 is split into a larger natural part (lower section, green) and a smaller man-made component (upper section, red). The CO2 percentages are 70 percent natural and 30 percent man-made.
