Pillars Of Time
Photograph - Photography
"Pillars of Time" serenades us with tones of tranquil beauty and strength, which flow as soft little waves, aging all within the passage of time...
This image was created after multiple requests from buyers who had seen the very popular selling vertical image of "Tranquility Below," but who desired a horizontal shaped image for their hanging decor needs. This called for another
trip to st. Maarten for the second shooting set of the image seen here in "Pillars of Time!"...
"TRANQUILITY BELOW" by KAREN WILES
This tranquil image is underneath a pier in Grand Case, on the French side of St. Maarten in the Western Carribean. There were many of the island's beautiful children playing and running atop of this pier and diving into the waters below. There were lots of laughter, fun and many many smiles. I walked underneath to find this beautiful "Tranquility Below" with vintage columns that were holding all the fun and the mesmerizing image was captured for a moment in time to be cherished always...
This particular piece has won and placed in many different competitions and still remains to be Mrs. Wiles most popular work. It is also available in a horizontal image entitled "Pillars of Time" which can also be found on her website along with five other images in this particular series.
Saint Martin (French: Saint-Martin; Dutch: Sint Maarten) is an island in the northeast Caribbean, approximately 300 km (190 mi) east of Puerto Rico. The 87 square kilometres (34 sq mi) island is divided roughly 60/40 between France (53 square kilometres (20 sq mi)) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (34 square kilometres (13 sq mi)); the two parts are roughly equal in population. It is one of the smallest sea islands divided between two nations, a division dating to 1648. The southern Dutch part comprises Sint Maarten and is one of four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The northern French part comprises the Collectivite Saint-Martin (Collectivity of St. Martin) and is an overseas collectivity of France.
On January 1, 2009 the population of the entire island was 77,741 inhabitants, with 40,917 living on the Dutch side, and 36,824 on the French side.
Collectively, the two territories are known as "St-Martin / St Maarten". Sometimes SXM, the IATA identifier for Princess Juliana International Airport (the island's main airport), is used to refer to the island.
