Plancheite mineral. This hydrated copper silicate mineral has the formula Cu8.Si8.O22.(OH)4.H2O, and is in the orthorhombic crystal class. It is a secondary mineral formed in the oxidized zone of copper mineral deposits. This sample, 4.5 centimetres across, is from the Shangulowe mine in the Kambove district of Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Photographed at the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium.
