This is what I love the most in painting. I love the research that comes as one builds a fondness of the subject matter. Life is wonderful because it often has the gotchs. Okay please post to this group because I like to read why you painted the lighthouse? JONS-

. I said to myself, "I know this tower and I know it well, but I can't place it." I knew that the amusement park was torn down in 1984 so I figure the lighthouse went via the demo. A little googling and I realize the beacon that has been a part of my childhood was built for the park, but rather (sort of) the park was built for the lighthouse that was built in 1857.

In a small fenced part of the park was an area titled "kiddie land" where I first saw the lighthouse when I was 5 years old. As I grew older and visted the park I remember walking past the kiddie land and sort of taking the lighthouse for granted. Maybe I thought that it was built in 1939 for the opening of the new park. I was surprised one day while searching lighthouse subject matter and saw a picture with the name and date of the lighthouse. Continue - next post

Just wanted to say why I painted this lighthouse. It had to do with the location of the Pontchartrain lighthouse (also known as the Milneburg LH.),as well as the history we share together. This lighthouse used to be a part of an amusement park called Pontchartrain Beach. - Continued next post.

Jon, what a beautiful watercolour painting. Lovely light on it! The wonderful blues of the sky and the sandy colours are a great match!
