Portal Of St. Lachtain
Painting - Oil On Canvas
This beautiful little gem of a building lies in the tiny village of Freshford in North Kilkenny and is only a few miles from where I live. This portal is the only part of the original Church built in 1100 and it was plundered and burnt by the Vikings. I enjoyed trying to capture the texture of the stonework and the beautiful Romanesque features of what remains of this National treasure.Lovely to have it on my doorstep.
