Portrait Of A Nokota
Painting - Oil Pastel On Paper
The Nokota is a type of mustang that is believed to be a descendant of Sitting Bulls war ponies. Genetically they have Spanish Mustang, Morgan horse, Draft horse genes and more horse breeds within their makeup. Then the process of natural selection over the years has enhanced their capabilities even more. Some of these unique characteristics that make them an important contributor to the worlds equine population. The heavier bones, shape and size of the hooves, the contour of their bodies, even the point of attachment of their tails make them a sounder, swifter runner and a more capable jumper as compared to other horses. Currently some horse trainers and riders have discovered that jumping ability. I have read some information about a horse breeder who was looking for a horse with jumping ability and found out about some tamed Nokotas. When she saw the mares, one looked to be very pregnant. It demonstrated that jumping ability by simply slowly galloped towards a six foot fence and cleared it with ease and kept right on going without slowing down. She had found a horse with fabulous jumping ability.
