Tidal flat of a Precambrian landscape. The Precambrian Eon lasted 4 billion years and spanned the first three-quarters of Earth's history. Stromatolites (mound-shaped structures formed by blue-green algae and cyanobacteria) were dominant life forms during this period and are the first-known life preserved as fossils.
