Description
Primrose flower (Primula vulgaris). Close-up of the middle of the flower, showing the stigma (centre). Primrose plants are either 'thrum eye' or 'pin eye'. This plant is a 'pin eye', meaning that the stigma lies further up towards the top of the flower than the male anthers do. In the 'thrum eye' plant, the reproductive structures are reversed. This increses the chance of cross pollination.
