Painting - Oil On Cardboard
Sacred Sports have replaced Sundays sermons and the Christian model. In America, millions of NFL fans gathers at stadiums and around their t.v. sets on Sunday afternoons to watch their favorite team compete. Many of these adherents see the game as something sacred, their team is now their "Ultimate Concern". On the Christian "day of rest" and "time of worship" Pro Football games are played through out the day and its followers are sure not miss a second of the action. In the state of Minnesota, home of the NFL team the Minnesota Vikings, die hard fans chose the nickname "Purple Jesus" for their premiere running back Adrian Peterson. Adrian is seen as the "savior" of their team, in hopes of guiding the Vikings back on the "path" of winning. Adrian Peterson has arguably become one of the best football players in the NFL today. The term "Purple Jesus" can be found in the Urban Dictionary and is fittingly also the title for this piece.
