Pyrite Ammonite Pendant
Jewelry - Sterling Silver, Pyrite Ammonite Drusy
Ammonites lived 10 Million years ago in the Sea. These ancient seas are now land masses. Ammonites are mined, found in cliffs and rocky areas. The process of becoming stone begins with displacing the animals' cavity with minerals which are deposited by water runing through it deep in the earth. The creation of rock requires extreme pressure, heat and time. During the creation of this stone, pyrite was deposited along with agate. The pyrite is crystaline, is drusy, whereas the agate is hard rock. When shaped and polished, the contrast is really beautiful. This stone is from Russia. I set it with a sterling silver bezel on one side and a prong on the other. I needed to expose as much of the stone as possible to achieve the greatest exposure. It is so unique! It hangs on an 18" sterling silver snake chain.
