Pythagoras (6th century BC) believed that the world is a well organized system with a common unified appearance – which is not so detached from modern conceptions about the universe. He was the first who figured out the reference of our surrounding world to the mathematic order of numbers.
This basic principle was the backbone of his philosophy and on this ground he developed all his fascinating conceptions regarding cosmology, natural sciences, mathematics, music and aesthetics.
The famous theorem that bares his name applies on any rectangular triangle defining the existing relation between the quadrants of the sides.
My work tries to render the sense of peaceful harmony that is ruled by the ideas of order and proportion, ideas that, according to phythagoreans, correspond to the idea of beauty. In addition, it addresses clearly the issue of harmonious relations between the parts and the whole.
“For god’s purpose was to use as his model the highest and most completely perfect of intelligible things, and so he created a single visible living being, containing within itself all living
beings of the same natural order. […] And the best bond is one that effects the closest unity between itself and the terms it is combining; and this is best done by a continued geometrical proportion.”
Plato (5th - 4th century BC), Timaeus.
