Description
In 2008, at the height of the Dubai property boom and near the tipping point when western economies went into crisis mode, the most regal of all cruise ships of the 20th century moored at Dubai Port to begin her second life. She was to be refitted as a floating hotel to help in meeting the growing tourist flow to the UAE. The collapse of Lehman Brothers first slowed then halted development. The QE2 sat patiently in the cruise ship section of Port Rashid. That is when Martin Giesen captured her presence and placed her, a bit closer than visual reality would have allowed, near the abras (watertaxis) that line Dubai creek. Late in 2014 anxious QE2 enthusiasts are raising their voice in cyberspace to draw attention to the neglected beauty.
