Queen In Morning Light
Photograph - Photography
A lucky shot for me,I was out to photograph birds one hot Arizona summer morning
at The Riparian Preserve At Water Ranch, not that many birds were out and although it was early I could still feel the sun beating down on me.I wondered over to another pond and thought "while maybe there will at least be some butterflies over by the flowers" As if someone heard my thoughts I looked over and saw this
Queen butterfly basking in the soft glow of the morning light. Her wings were spread open and I thought to myself as I focused my camera " thank you for something as small as a butterfly" It really made my day.
the Queen Butterfly (Danaus gilippus) is a North and South American butterfly in the family Nymphalidae (the brush-foots) with a wingspan of 2.75 3.25" (70 88mm).They seem to be the most common here in Arizona in the summer months
