Helena, this may be my new favorite. It's wonderful. You can read this little girl like a book! Not seeing the actual print colors, the monitor image colors look ok, light and ethereal, but I'm sure the actual print colors only improve it.

I, too, love this one! Oooh, if someone had painted a portrait of ME like this, when I was little, I think I could have flown... Like everyone else, I find it light but beautiful, very clear. Let us know if you change the image, okay? Love it - both as a portrait and as another piece teeming with nature. Yum!

great treatment of a child's face. Captures the particular shape of the pre-puberty child's head shape as well as the profound childlike wonder and curiosity. Really has the feel of a particular person in a particular moment.

I think this is the most beautiful of your paintings! It does seem a bit washed out. I have been having trouble with some uploads here and I have determined it is the mode or color assigned. Is it a CMYK, RGB or sRGB? That was the problem with mine. I don't think CMYK works here.

I have commented on this painting before, and believe that it falls into a class of paintings of exceptional quality in all of its facets. Good luck with the further development of your very creative style Helena !!.

It is a bit pale-ish but absolutely beautiful! The family must be very pleased. One thing though -- you mention the blossom crown but I see only one hint of a blossom in the painting. There are butterfly wings and magical foliage but I would have liked to see more suggestions of flowers and maybe even something relating to vegetables in the crown since the little girl likes helping her Dad in the vegetable garden -- would have personalized it a bit more. I'm new to your work and have added you to my "watch list" -- very inspirational, lovely work.

Description:

This is a commission portrait of a girl who lives in northern Italy. Its based on photos taken by her family, and stories theyve told. She loves faeiries, art, dressing up, animals, and also helping her dad in their vegetable garden. I based here portrait on the story of the May Queen, and below is a little bit about this day and its history. The May Queen and Robin of the Hood, together, they symbolized the Lord and Lady of the Wildwood: spring’s promise of fertility and future abundance in field, farm, and woodland. A little girl would be chosen to present the May Queen with her blossom crown. Here, a bridesmaid tries the crown on for size, embodying future generations and roles they’ll soon enough play for real. The May Queen represented earth’s new promise, purity, fertility and abundance. May Eve (Beltain) was not only trysting time for mortals, but celebrated by the Fey, and acknowledged by Saxon and Celt alike. Come May Eve, the queen was crowned and the great marriage celebrated. Homes were decorated with blossoms and hawthorn, mimicking the new life visible in farm fields and meadows. The May Queen is related to Roman goddess Maia, whose name means spring and the time of increase and growth. The feast day of Flora, Roman goddess of flowers and fruit, was celebrated a few days before May Eve. If you want it signed (at no extra charge), let me know so we can arrange the shipping. By the way, does this image look a little too light to anyone? Its printing dark here at home but on my screen it seems too high key.
