Description
"RADIANCE of the GLADES" - an oil painting by Riley Geddings completed November, 2010.
Again, we are deep inside The Glades - and this time it is late evening and the Florida sun has just dipped below the far horizon.
The presence of that beautiful burning star is still dramatically evidenced by the glowing colors of that gorgeous sky ...
I really enjoy gazing at this sky - those oranges and lemons are magnificently portrayed as
they ultimately blend into the approaching darkness of another night sky. The sinking sun still emanates several eye-catching rays which
are so radiantly evident in this radiant sky ... hence "Radiance of The Glades". Drifting across the heavens are several layers of clouds
floating lazily overhead - and here we see that Riley has applied those colors of the clouds by use of his knife. ... good job Riley !!
Silhouetted against that twilight sky are quite a few palm trees - far distant - mid-way - and foreground - giving the oil painting
a really good three-dimensional effect. These are all Sabal Palms (aka Cabbage Palms) - the state tree of Florida. Dotted here and there
are a few small islands ever-present in the lowlands of The Glades, upon which we always find typical Florida foliage alongside the
palm trees. Claiming center-stage is a perfect reflection of the colors cast by the setting sun ... and indeed a few sunrays ... shining
forth on the fresh waters of this pond. Gazing at this beautiful scene, we also become aware of several birds hovering over the waters
as they seek that last tasty morsel before retiring. Of course - as one has come to expect in all of Riley's paintings, we see his "hallmark"
- the inquisitive Black-headed Gull (Larus Ridibundus) our favorite gull hovering and seeking. Another great oil painting from
my favorite artist ... Good job, Riley !! Description by Maggie Geddings, writer, published author, and poet !
