Ready Aim Fire

An eerie look over a civil war era cannon located at the Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland. The battle that took place here on September 17, 1862, between the North & South has an awful claim to fame, i.e., the bloodiest single-day battle in American history, with 22,717 dead, wounded, or missing. The rolling terrain here proved beneficial to both sides who placed their more than 500 cannons on high ground to effectively strike enemy troop positions at great distances. The cannon fire was so intense that Confederate Col. Stephen D. Lee referred to Antietam as "artillery hell".
