This is an older piece that has been given an overhaul. Captured in Botswana in 2008. This is part of the Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world. I spent a few days out here in the middle of the wilderness and close to nothing man made. Itís about as wild as the south of Africa can get.
It was while we were being poled around the delta in mokoros, the African version of a gondola that we encountered this sunset. A perfect moment in life. Minutes after taking this, we encountered a not so perfect moment of a hippo with a new born. We had moved just within a danger zone of them and she was threatening to charge. We were ordered to lay down in the mokoros and be silent. We were hiding in a patch of reeds while mum submerged herself underwater and vanished from sight. This could have been the longest five minutes of my life, waiting for what would happen next. Thankfully, nothing did. We managed to hide well enough to be forgotten. We got out of there pretty damn fast.
We probably wouldnít have been so scared if we hadnít been stampeded by elephants at our campsite the night before. But thatís another story.. :)
