Painting - Ink And Watercolor On Watercolor Paper
Richard Parker by Debi Pople portrays a sweet, expressive tiger. This ink and watercolor painting incorporates loose lines, vibrant colors as well as salt and alcohol resist techniques.
The title, Richard Parker, is based on the character from the book and now the film, Life of Pi. Life of Pi is a fantasy adventure novel by Yann Martel. The protagonist, Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel, a Tamil boy from Pondicherry, explores issues of spirituality and practicality from an early age. He survives 227 days after a shipwreck while stranded on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.* The film, Life of Pi is a 3D live-action/computer-animated adventure drama based on the novel and is directed by Ang Lee. The 3D effects in this movie are incredible and left such a creative mark on me. How the tiger got his name plays a very humorous part of the story...
Many ideas for the title of the painting were thrown back and forth, but when I asked my daughter for her suggestion of a title, her response, "Richard Parker." It was purrrrfect!
