Painting - Watercolour
Watercolour painting of trees reflected in the waters of a slow moving river.
When I began my professional career as an artist I moved to an isolated Lock house at Maganey beside the river Barrow in Ireland. The Barrow is one of the three sisters rivers formed by the Suir, Nore and Barrow.
The river is fairly wide and its banks are verdant and wild with masses of fascinating flora and fauna. I was very happy there, it was very peaceful and so very beautiful.
This painting is inspired by my memories of living by the river .
A feature of the Barrow are lateral canals which is a separate navigational channel designed to follow the course of the river. Lock houses were the dwellings of lock keepers who maintained the Lock gates which were necessary to facilitate boat traffic and were built close by the river. When I lived there , the river was no longer used for commercial boat traffic so it was quite tranquil and idyllic .
