Description:
this piece belongs to a south carolinian collector who used to work as a shrimp boater offshore the carolina coast. he and is wife recently returned from japan where they had lived and worked for several years. this piece was painted in reflection of a sailors possibly most conflicted feelings regarding sighting landfall. at once, one may be exhilerated and petrified in the same moment; exhilerated at the prospect of making land and relative safety, fresh provisions and supplies, etc, coupled with the fear of getting trapped on a lee shore. a terrifying situation where the wind and weather may push a vessel against a landfall with no ability to crawl her way off. a sailors nightmare, yet ever the optimist, it is one of my favourite views. danita
