Robert Plant was born in August of 1948 and is best known for being the lead singer of Led Zeppelin. Rolling Stone Magazine editors listed him as the 15th greatest singer of all time, later on a readers poll listed him as the number 1 rock and roll singer ever.
One of his early bands was the Band Of Joy. He met John Bonham in this early rendition of the band. Led Zeppelin came together in 1968 with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant John Bonham and John Paul Jones.
After Led Zeppelin split up Robert moved on to a solo career. In 1982 he released Pictures at Eleven.
In 2010 Plant reinvented The Band Of Joy, this band included Buddy Miller, Darrel Scott, and Patty Griffin.
Patty Griffin in the meantime had been an accomplished singer song writer. She won a Grammy for her album Downtown Church as the Best Traditional Gospel Album.She has performed with many Americana musicians including Emmy Lou Haris, Buddy Miller, David Rawlings and Gillian Welch.
This image was taken at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park in the fall of 2010. The Band of Joy headlined the Banjo Stage on the first of the three day event.They played a number of songs spanning the carrer of Robert Plant including many Led Zeppelin songs. The estimated crowd for the weekend was 750,000 people.
