Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
I live near Cape Canaveral. The beach is only five minutes from my home. Of course, I have to paint it from time to time. Because it is sandy, windy, and often full of people, I usually don't paint on location. What I did in the case of this painting, is to spend the day at the beach. I study the colors and the motion of the water. I sorta commit it all to memory. I might take a few photographs, too. Often, as in this case, I didn't use any photographs. I just began a kind of abstract pattern of colors based on my memory. I remembered that I was intrigued by how vividly green the water looked in the curl of the waves. The foam near the shore seemed unusually bright white. It seemed rather an unusual color palette for around here. The colors of the beaches here usually seem much more blue and gray-blue with hints of pink. The water is often turquoise. This day, the water seemed like a very deep turquoise but leaning heavily to Kelly green. The surf was relatively calm and quiet. There was enough of a breeze to blow flecks of foam from the top of the curling waves. Gulls and pelicans flew by from time to time. I included just one gull in the painting. I wanted this particular painting to be more about the colors of the water than of wildlife. I hope that this painting conveys of sense of peace and beautiful watery patterns.
