Rough Water Sailing
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Rough water sailing on Lake Ontario. Acrylic on stretched canvas by Catherine Howard.
Kingston Ontario is known as the freshwater sailing capital of the world Located on Lake Ontario, the windy waterfront city of Kingston is considered to have some of the best fresh water sailing conditions in the world. Kingston played host to the Olympic Sailing events of 1976. For two weeks every year in late August, sailors from around the world travel to Kingston for C.O.R.K., the annual Canadian Olympic Training Regatta. A thousand boats compete and 10,000 people take in the activities from waterfront parks. The six courses reach from the St. Lawrence River well out into Lake Ontario. When visiting Kingston you have easy access to the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands (actually, there are more than 1800). Kingston is at the junction of the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario and the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal system.
