Photo manipulation / collage of certain photographs related to thrones and throne
This artwork is a compressed sublimation of my thoughts on monarchy and includes a wide range of associations. Starting with the situation of the nobility in Germany and Europe in the tension between disenchantment with politics and depreciations, over dethroned heads, and on closer view up to the point of caricature, here are aspects of the idea cumulated that nations might require crowned heads, to believe in something secular higher, sacred and precious, last but not least in themselves.
The monarchy was not de-installed in some parts of Europe because its metaphor was refused, but because one accepted morally not any longer their abuse and irresponsibility to the people. Is the idea of a good regent, who loves his people more than his personal interests, realistic or is that a romantic illusion?
Nowadays, there are, as with religion, many substitutes, but all of them lack the deep rootedness and therefore in some way the sustainable venerability. You can badly continually believe in them. This might be one of the many aspects, why human values forfeited in their meaning, capacity and stabilizing function.
