Rural Washday 1969 - Nostalgic Memories
Photograph - Photography
Rural Washday 1969 by Barbara Griffin. This is a photograph of a typical rural community in 1969 in Newfoundland. It is probably Monday since that was usually the day for laundry. Since there were few clothes dryers, clothes were dried outside on a clothesline. Notice toward the bottom right is an outhouse left as a reminder of poorer times when bathroom facilities were outdoors. The two-room schoolhouse, on the left, was used for all grades.
