This rusted Model A sits along a narrow mountain road east of Placerville, California. Rust, as well as bullet holes, cover the shell. It is one of the best images of abandoned cars I have found to date. Abandoned automobiles can be found in many mountain regions, at least in the Sierra foothills in California where my brother lives. What stories these old cars might tell.

Chris, this is on Happy Valley Road, past the severe uphill switchback and on and on into the next high valley. Last time I was there, the person who owned the property had placed a mailbox right in front of the scene so you can't get a great shot like this one. Strange, too, that no one lives on the property.

Where is this located? I used to go to Placerville every week in 1996-7. But I mostly travelled hi way 49 from Plymouth to Placerville. Also I went thru Mt Aukum, Somerset and Fiddletown. Old rusted out cars fascinate me. I like this.
