...Hoping to get some nice shots
of the sunset at Lake Jackson
in Sebring, just adjacent to the
Highlands Hammock State Park,
I brought my Canon
and the wide-angle lens
down to the lake.
I was surprised to see
some huge Sandhill Cranes
fly in and begin wading
in the shallow water
and grasses
looking for bugs to eat.
They allowed me
to get this close to them
and were not scared
by me or my camera.
I suppose they must have thought
that I was one of them,
crouched down in the grass
with them!
They are big, beautiful, colorful birds
and I was really happy
to have captured this image.
I just found out that this image
was selected in the
Editor's Pick of the Week
for the Smithsonian Magazine
for the week of August 17, 2011.
