Characteristics of 'The Second Wave': This image features very fine details including precise color bands, smoothly stepped texture gradations, and visibly correct transitions between order and chaos at the smallest level. Come with me on a short tour and I'll point out examples of these, then leave it to you to further examine this unusually detailed image.

The Tour: When you roll your mouse pointer over the image, you'll see that it is broken down into rows and columns of squares, each of which lets you zoom in for a detailed view.

Now, move your pointer about 2/3rds of the way down the left column to the square containing the red 'gash' on the left edge and click there. After a brief delay while the system fetches that chunk of the image, you'll see a new box showing a (*)high-resolution preview of that square. Note that the chaotic area of the 'gash' can now be clearly seen as a 'worn-through' area revealing a red layer below. You will also see very fine color bands transitioning through shades of red and into the aquas in the upper right of the box. Also, note the finely shaded textures that dominate the area immediately below the gash.

The squares comprising the yellow triangle above and to the right of the gash show a quite different example of this broken layering as well as the interaction between the primary objects as they compete for the foreground.

Please take a few minutes to explore further and verify for yourself the quality of effort that went into every square inch of this beautiful 64 million pixel artwork.

After perusing a bit on your own, I think you'll agree that this artwork scales easily to fill a 4 foot by 4 foot canvas while maintaining a very fine level of detail, even at the closest of viewing distances.

*[The preview box claims to be a 'full-resolution preview', but on my monitor, it variously displays either a one-half resolution or an approximately 2/3rd resolution preview with 36 or 64 squares, respectively. You can quantify the error on your system, if any, by calculating the pixels-per-inch of the preview box (based on your monitor resolution) and then dividing the image size by the number of preview columns. This error appears to only afflict very high-resolution images, such as this one. I apologize for this discrepancy and am in the process of contacting tech support for clarification or corrective action. -RY]
