Description
I was wondering around in one of the best known parks of Sedona while hubby was climbing the peak of a famous mountain on the other side of the park... I photographed everything that moved or stood still. Everything is different in Sedona... it is like being on another planet. Even the tree barks are red as they are dying. This is a tree bark on a wood stump that was cut for some reason ages ago. I was there because I found many critters around the stump, between the creases, and in the shade of the folds. I took some very interesting pictures right here--one red ant is actually on the middle of this picture but I did not notice that until I processed the photo in my studio.

The texture: I have a collection of well over a 1000 textures (this wood bark will actually become one of its own). But on this I applied a texture to enhance the edges since I used a macro lens and was very close with a narrower depth of field that this photo would have required--I was hunting for critters and not bark but then I fell in love with the bark. :) An artist is an artist.

This park in Sedona is quite famous as it faces the most well known mountain: Cathedral Rock.. the very "rock" my husband was climbing. I was told that the best place to photograph it is from this park--true. Except that the time of the day best to photograph it, the park is not actually open! So while I have beautiful photos of Cathedral Rock, I will post that later since when the park is open, the light is actually quite bad for the photography... I am told the best time to go is before the sun rises but for that I suppose one must sneak into the park... the park does not open till after 9 am so legally a photo like that is impossible. :) Next time I will sneak in.. for now,. here is the gorgeous bark!

Very nice....the bark is as interesting as the red rock I've painted so much. Thanks for bringing this forth..

'Like!' BTW, a long lens from Red Rock Loop Road will do the trick, and, it's open at O-dark thirty in the morning too... (v)
