Classic Martini served straight up in a chilled classic martini glass and garnished with pimento filled olives sits aside a martini shaker. Martinis are mixed from gin and dry vermouth with the amount of vermouth determining whether the drink is a dry martini or wet martini. The standard mixture is a five to one ratio. The less vermouth the drier the martini. Also the method of preparation can vary, either shaken or stirred. Some of the newer versions of martinis take their name from the shape of the glass the drink is served in, not the actually ingredients used. Made famous by Sean Connery in the James Bond movie series is the often quoted phase "Shaken, not stirred", this cocktail is chosen by many as the sophisticated drink to serve.
