Shelled amoeba. Differential interference contrast micrograph of the testate (shelled) amoeba Arcella sp.. The circular shell is formed form the polysaccharide chitin. This amoeba is found in freshwater ponds and puddles. Magnification x150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
