Description:
Mixografía® is pleased to announce the release of three new print editions, shortstories I, shortstories II, and shortstories III, 2006, by Swiss artist
Peter Wüthrich, for immediate public viewing in the gallery.
An internationally acclaimed contemporary artist, Peter Wüthrich has been constructing works of art from found books for the past decade and a half. Conceptually, Wüthrich’s books may represent the pervasive and omnipresent power of imagination. Disassociating them from their original purpose, he often employs closed linen-covered books as stable units to construct sculptural forms. His repetitive compositions, which are sometimes monochromatic, sometimes varied in color, and ironically, often reminiscent of pixilated digital images are always drawn from the essential shape of the book.
He has focused on the iconic images and motifs printed on the cloth to pay particular homage to the power of narrative adventures and to literature as a source of inspiration. In the first print editions made in collaboration with the Mixografía® Workshop, shortstories I, shortstories II, and shortstories III, 2006, the artist continues his signature use of books as singular blocks of color. In each, printed linen-textured book covers frame embossed graphic titles, which tell a story that may remind us of the connection of books to literature, art, history, and humanity, while resting on the paper as sleepy metaphors for the world.
The work of Peter Wüthrich has recently been exhibited at the Foundation Salomon in Annecy, France and the Biblioteca Vasconcelos in Mexico City. In 2005, his work was exhibited in solo shows at both Assab One, Milan and the O.K. Centrum für Gegenwartskunst, Linz. His work continues to appear in galleries, institutions, and museums worldwide.
