Description
This is a Wild Mountain Lion out in nature. This is not a house pet like so many other photos of lions. Photo was taken in southern Colorado in January. Lion are a success story, once the Government decided that they should be removed from the area, now their are more wild lions in United States than when Columbus discovered North America. Lions are spread from Florida to California to Canada all the way west on the northern half of the country to Wisconsin. Lion are amazing secretive animals that can and often live and travel within a few feet from houses without anyone knowing how close they are to us. Adult lion can kill a full grown healthy elk weighing 4-5 time their weight as a solitary killer. Lion are very playful like house cats and will kill a string of as many as ten sheep just for the fun of it and eat only a small amount off of one sheep and go back up on the mountain or canyon they came from. They are truly amazing creatures that will kill the prey that comes closest with a speed that makes it able to catch the healthiest fastest largest animal in the herd if that is the one that comes close to them. Theses are the apex of the hunters in all the animal kingdom in my opinion with the speed, strength and agility to survive as a solitary unit not requiring a pack to be able to kill prey much larger than themselves

Mr. Lyons takes awesome photos of lions! This is a fantastic photo out in nature and not sure how you did this! I like your description, also, which shows respect for the natural world. v/f

Thank you Lenore, you could say mountain lions are my passion, and I had dogs with me to keep him from getting to personal with me that is the only way.
