And of course, that so many other whole cultures are rapidly heading toward extinction. Thank you again, Anne-Elizabeth, for reminding us with this example, of this joy in friendship, in sharing, and thereby all three of you learning and growing together. May we all have such experiences!

(Continued) It is so unfortunate, I believe, that the joy of learning, about anything, is decreasing as an endangered species, along with the joys of reading and appreciating all the traditional arts, of our own culture and of so many other cultures, too. (continued)

(Continued) "He who is different from me does not impoverish me, he enriches me." (Quotation from The Little Prince...I think.) How wonderful a world if we all could believe and feel and live that way, appreciating what we can learn from others!

(Cont.) I’ll bet (and I AM a betting man!) that no one could guess how this painting came to be, even with your title. And it was really a pleasure to read about how a friendship developed among you three, but most of all I appreciated your ending:

I really appreciate your long paragraph about this painting, Anne-Elizabeth. I had looked at the painting a while, remembering your Sedona paintings, but I’ll bet (and I AM a betting man!) that no one could guess how this painting came to be, even with your title. (Cont.)

Bruce, You have deep insights into my thoughts and reasoning behind my paintings...which are right on. Sometimes the inner meaning is apparent. ("Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.") However, at times I paint not knowing the words to describe my feelings and you "get it." Also you are a lover of humanity and I am too. Regards to your wife and son. Thank you for your expressions of appreciation and your sharing of YOUR thoughts through your unique and beautiful paintings.

What an ingenious idea to use Braille pages for your painting! the result is unique and quite lovely. And yes, what a great story of how it all came to be. I too have a friend who is blind. He is amazing in the stories he tells and wonderful humor he shares with us all.

Judith and Bruce, Thank you for yourinsightful & lovely comments. Art seems to help me reach out to the whole world.

Anne this has a sense of senses. Perhaps this shows the essence of the energy of blindness. I appreciate it. greetings HH

Elizabeth, I just now "really looked" at this, even though I've seen it at your house! I just wanted you to know that this painting says so much about what a special person you are. It shows your great "heart", your compassion for others, and your willingness to try and understand whatever others are going through....It's a masterpiece :)

Thank you so much for your comments. I think my zebra paintings were my most enjoyable pieces to create. I love the creativity and whimsy in your braile piece. Well done!

Hi Anne-Elizabeth, Thanks for your comments !! Always good to know somebody is looking at what you are doing. The painting on Braille paper is very striking and I love it ! I see you do all kinds of things. Maybe you can put down a description of a new painting, let someone type it out in Braille, you paint on it and then Liz and other blind people can also enjoy your art ! I will also be back to see what you are up to. Jan

Hi Anne Thanks for the beautiful comments. The one you chose is my favorite piece. I chose your piece on braille paper as I thought it was fascinating. I had a blind girl come with her mom to my exhibition and asked if she could touch my dotted paitings. I said, yes and she enjoyed the experience as her mom explained to her what it was. My dotted paintings: In Search, Base Chakra, Color Myraid, have a relief texture which I think anyone should enjoy. I was attracted to your done on braille also because I have worked with special needs children, visually impaired, and they love stuff with textures. Best wishes Vijay

This colourful painting really caught me - and the story behind it makes this artwork much more enjoyable. Congratulations (and thanks for commenting my work).

Hello Anne, Thank you for your kind remarks on my paintings. You really have got a marvelous and eclectic collection of veritable masterworks. I chose this one and read the inspiring story behind it. I lost my father in 2004. He had gone blind in 2002 but somehow could see still the art works that I was creating. Maybe thats why I use such bright colors; I always hoped that he could see some of the energy that the colors emitted. Wishful thinking ,reality, who knows but this wonderful piece has so much to offer us all. Nice to meet you through your art. I also am a former teacher, I taught art and art history in senior high school for 15 years , and left to pursue a full time painting career. I will surely visit again CAROLE

Description:

This is a true story so just bear with me.
I have a friend who has a friend who is blind. Her name is Liz.
The blind lady is well-read, intelligent and articulate. She does everything possible she can for herself.
She lives in Newport News..
My friend Beverly works for her in keeping her home organized, although Bev has a regular job which sometimes includes 10 hour workdays.
I had a "brainstorm" one day. I asked Beverly to ask if I could have any Braille books that Liz had planned to discard.
Beverly soon delivered a TALL stack of them to me. As might know, the books are thick, not to mention heavy. Beverly brought them over. The back seat of her van was loaded with them.
I painted this picture on one of the pages..
This is purely from my imagination so I did not know how this picture would look when finished.
I simply started painting.

It is wonderful to have Beverly and Liz as friends.

"He who is different from me does not impoverish me, he ENRICHES me."
Quotation from " The Little Prince ."
