Description
Silica gel beads. Light micrograph of beads of non-hazardous self-indicating silica gel. Silica gel is a form of silicon dioxide synthetically obtained from sodium silicate. It is commonly used as a desiccant to absorb moisture in small enclosed environments, for example, inside packages of goods. Often a humidity indicator is included, so the beads change colour depending on the amount of water they have absorbed. Magnification: x2.25, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
