Description
Silver hallmarks. Handle of a piece of silver cutlery showing assay marks and hallmarks. These symbols indicate the quality and origin of the piece. The initials 'D & F' stand for the maker 'Deacon and Francis'. The anchor shows that the piece was assayed (tested) in Birmingham. The lion is the symbol for sterling silver, meaning that the metal comprises at least 92.5 percent silver. The letter 'H' gives the year (1957) in which the piece was assayed.
