Skylab 3 expended rocket. View of the expended S-IVB second stage of the Skylab 3/Saturn 1B space vehicle. It is seen from the Skylab 3 Command and Service Module (CSM). Skylab 3 was launched on 28 July 1973 with three astronauts onboard Alan L. Bean, Jack R. Lousma and Owen K. Garriott, who remained in the Skylab space station in Earth-orbit for 59 days. In servicing the Skylab they erected a new sunshade, and conducted 305 hours of solar observations. This photograph was taken over Italy and France, with the Mediterranean Sea visible at lower left.
