A pair of great horned owls in their nest. Believe them to be about three weeks old or less. You can see the feathers just beginning to sprout beneath their down. One chubby owlet is just about asleep as the other yawns broadly for a long long time. I had plenty of time to capture it. It was a beautiful day with mostly blue skies. A shaft of light breaks through the canopy of leaves atop this oak tree to shine on the head of one of the little birds. That yawn made me sleepy, too.
You hear stories about the notion that owls are wise...must be true. The nest was in the tree of a college campus in Melbourne. I guess their parents intended them to get a good education.
