Smithsonian Butte And Two Feathers Ranch Early Fall On The Virgin River Rockville Utah
Photograph - Prints Or Digital Files
Late afternoon light makes striking silhouettes of the mesas and buttes looking south from UT Route 9 at the entrance to the small town of Rockbille Utah along the Scenic Byway leading to Zion National Park. The most prominent silhouette in the right skyline is that of Smithsonian Butte which is par to a protected area above Grafton Ghost Town and near Gooseberry, Grafton and Wire Mesa.
In the foreground are contented cattle eating still very green grass with an old fence that leads the eye toward the cottonwood trees along the Virgin River--the very tops of the trees have turned yellow and are glowing gold color in the later afternoon light. The sky is azure blue and cloudless. A great day to be in the Southwest and southern Utah.
