Snoring. Cutaway computer artwork of a person's head, showing the airways in a snorer. Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement (blue arrow) whilst breathing when asleep. Here, the person is lying on their back and the reduced muscle tone that occurs during sleep has caused the back of the throat to relax and obstruct the passage of air from the nose.
