Description
Solar cooking device, artwork. This device works by using foil to reflect rays of sunlight (yellow arrows) inside a plastic bag or other transparent container. The sunlight heats up the water or food in the containers, but the heat (red arrows) is trapped inside the plastic bag. The sunlight can pass through the plastic bag because it has a different wavelength to that of the heat radiation. This is the same effect used in greenhouses. Temperatures of around 150 degrees Celsius can be attained. Solar cookers are cheap and environmentally friendly. They are often used in remote areas and by aid agencies and refugees to boil water before use.
