Solar Silver - Nativity Of Christ Orthodox Cathedral - Riga - Latvia
Photograph - Photograph - Digitially And Artistically Altered
The Nativity of Christ Cathedral, designed by Nikolai Chagin with the blessing of Tsar Alexander II, was built in a Neo-Byzantine style from 1876 to 1883, while Latvia was still part of the Russian Empire. The cathedral is renowned for its icons. During German and communist Russian occupations it served as a Lutheran church and a planetarium. It has now been preserved to its original glory.
