Photograph - Photograph
Some of the 100 Italian and Slavic coal miners arrested following a strike riot in which a constable, William Riggs, was killed in Feb. 1915 in Fairmont, West Virginia. With nativist prejudice, the authorities linked the strike to the terrorist organization, The Black Hand, sending over 50 miners to prison for ten years to life.
