Description
Soo Line locomotive 1003 was built by the American Locomotive Company. It is a 2-8-2 "Mikado" type engine, classed "L-1" on the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad (aka "Soo Line"). It served the railroad well, and was preserved in Duluth, Minnesota after its operating career. A volunteer group has restored 1003 to operating order, and has run many special excursions for the public and special interest groups. Today the locomotive is housed at the Hartford Auto Museum in Hartford, Wisconsin when it is not out on tour.
