Description:
Working with such beautiful fibers from nature & creating/designing something so directly from nature (wool) is extremely gratifying. The colors of the dyes created what I feel looks like an ocean reef. The Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea forms a natural breakwater for the coast of Australia and contains coral gardens & unusual marine life. It is the largest reef in the world. Of the many hundreds of varieties of coral growing on the reef; the Staghorn (antler type) is one of the most common. The Great Barrier Reef is a true wonderland of color & beauty. This yarn dyed, knitted & felted into a beautiful oceanic reef pattern & I can hear the ocean & see the many beautiful sea creatures & plant life come out in this wool & soy as it felted & the Staghorn Coral concept jumped out at me & longed to become a part of these beautiful color combinations. Two nested bowls sit on a trivet & four coasters are tied with the dyed yarn used in creating these pieces.
