Standing wave on a vibrating string. This is a stationary transverse wave. The two ends are held stationary as the string is rapidly moved from side to side, creating a transverse wave with one half wavelength between the two ends. The stationary points are known as nodes. The peak of the wave is called an antinode. A stationary wave is also called a standing wave.
