Description
I dont think that there is any particular aspect of New Orleans that is photographed so frequently, and so beautifully, as one of the relatively ancient streetcars rolling down St Charles Avenue in the Garden District. Therefore, how could I possibly publish a gallery of St Charles Avenue images without including my own personal version of such an image?
This streetcar was snapped trundling towards town, just at it rounded the bend between State Street and Nashville - albeit closer to Audubon Park than the actual Garden District. This was something more of an impulse shot, having seen the other trolley coming back from town in the distance, rather than one that was pre-conceived. However, the portrait orientation of the image was something I had been thinking about for a while.
Rather than believe I was lucky to get an image of both streetcars heading toward each other, I tend to believe that getting this image was more down to patience than fortune. Anyone that has taken anytime to photograph the St Charles Avenue streetcars will tell you that such occurrences of double, or even triple, streetcars, is more of a common sight than you would think.
This shot was taken in November 2011, at the start of a long, but enjoyable walk along the 4 mile length of St Charles Avenue.
